DALLAS MEMORIAL POSTPARTUM & RECOVERY UNIT
The overall aesthetic of the Post Partum and Recovery unit was influenced by the geometric rhythm and patterns found within nature. Materials and finishes were carefully selected to display a luxurious, upscale, and glamorous design for all of the users to enjoy.
The local Dallas nature plays an important part in the Branding and overall aesthetic of the space. The Dallas Botanical Garden Crape Myrtle Allee contributes to the elements of nature and the metaphor of the tree.
Relationships within the hospital played an important role in the overall layout and design in order to create a space that functions properly and accommodates all of the users and their needs.
With a psychological and sociological design approach, the Post Partum and Recovery Unit of the Texas Memorial Hospital goes above and beyond to accommodate for all of the users of the space and their wide variety of needs.
VICTORY PARK ATHLETIC COMPLEX - SENIOR THESIS
For our senior capstone, our team, Design Studio V, has decided to explore a mixed use athletic training facility with corporate headquarters for three professional teams located in Dallas, Texas. With prime real estate directly across from the arena, American Airlines Center, where the team’s games are played, Victory Park Athletic Complex offers a location that is convenient and conducive to the growth and performance of every individual and team as a whole. Welcoming the Dallas community with open arms, the Victory Park Athletic Complex (VPAC) aims to celebrate the organization’s culture and values through every aspect. The VPAC will incorporate the team’s athletic training facilities as well as a corporate tour for business and basketball operations. With equality and restoration of the athletes in mind, the Victory Park Athletic Complex accommodates for the needs of the Dallas Mavericks (NBA), Dallas Wings (WNBA), Dallas Stars (NHL), and their associate staff members; conveniently contained within a single, state-of-the-art facility.
Beyond solely addressing the athletic performance and training of the athletes or teams, the facility and overall design solution is dedicated to enhancing the athlete’s overall quality of life. A strength and conditioning area, corporate area, and rehabilitation area were all implemented into the design to help accomplish the betterment of each user’s wellbeing. These amenities work with our users by providing them with areas that can strengthen, heal, and recover the athlete through the support of their given rehabilitation and training staff, while encouraging and maintaining the involvement and support of their teammates. Providing the spaces and amenities that are supportive of these goals, helps to unite the teams and the Dallas community to build a stronger sports community.
